Apple’s Phil Schiller has just announced the new iPhone 5. The event is currently live at San Fransisco. So what’s new in iPhone 5? Find the details below!

The new iPhone 5 is 20% lighter (112 g) in weight than iPhone 4S and 18% thinner (7.6mm thick) and sports 326ppi 4-inch retina display with 1136×640 resolution (same width but taller). The display has 44% better color saturation with full sRGB rendering. It has five rows of icons plus four shortcuts on the bottom. Phil also unveiled a brand new chipset for the iPhone 5: the A6, which is a full two times faster than A5 chip embedded in iPhone 4S. The A6 chip inside iPhone 5 will enhance CPU and graphics to work two times faster than previous iPhone. Also there’s a new image processor in the A6 to reduce noise and includes a so-called “smart filter” to do better at color-matching. The iPhone 5 will supports Sprint, Verizon and At&T’s LTE network in United States. There’s 8MP camera with sapphire lens crystal cover at back with smaller illuminated sensor and features much better low-light performance with 40% faster image capture! The camera has a built-in panorama more and supports 1080p video recording. Users can also snap photos while recording video at the same time.

The iPhone 5 speaker has 5-magnet transducer and Phile calls it “wideband audio”, basically a wider spectrum for audio. There are also now three microphones in the mix: one on the front, one on the back, and another on the bottom.

There’s single chip for voice and data and single radio chip as well. The antenna automatically switches connection – Dynamic Antena. There’s 802.11a/b/g/n with dual-channel with max speed upto 150Mbps.

There’s also improved battery in the new iPhone which provides 8 hours of 3G or LTE talktime or browsing and 10 hours on Wi-Fi browsing.

About connector! There’s miniature Dock Connector, all digital, has eight pins and it’s called “Lightning”. This all comes with adapter for it, but now word on what it will cost exactly. If you got old docks, the Apple is creating accessories to hel you with that.

The iPhone 5 also features new Shared Photo Streams. You can share a series of photos with friends and family to share and comment.

Of course, the new iPhone 5 will run on Apple’s iOS 6, but that was pretty much expected. On a similar note, Apple announced that iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, the new iPad, iPad 2 and iPod Touch will all be getting an update to iOS 6.

Oh yes, the Siri, “How did the 49ers do last weekend?” and she responded with the score. You can also launch apps, post facebook status by voice.

The iPhone 5 will be available in two colors – Black and White. The white version has a raw aluminum back. The black one has the black anodized backing.

About pricing, the iPhone 5 sticks to the same pricing as the 4S: $199 for 16GB. $299 for 32GB, $399 for 64GB. That’s on-contract pricing, of course. Now the iPhone 4S will be available for $99 and iPhone 4 for free.
